Devastated HK Residents in Disbelief as Large-Scale Blaze Destroys Housing Complexes

"Getting closer to the area, the heat intensifies and you can sense it, with the smoke being extremely heavy."

University student a local student was among the countless residents gathered at the location of a deadly blaze that engulfed significant parts of the multi-block residential estate in the city's Tai Po area.

A minimum of over three dozen residents have died in Wednesday's catastrophic inferno currently, with many still not located, suggesting that this count will probably increase.

"We're facing a tragedy," Thomas remarked about the incident, adding that he had witnessed a deceased person being taken away from the scene.

More than a 1,000 additional residents were compelled to leave the development as the fire spread, with several making their way to emergency facilities that have been set up to house them.

An elderly inhabitant, who has dwelled in building number two of the housing complex for over four decades years, described hearing "an extremely loud sound" and witnessing flames erupt in a close block.

"I immediately went inside to collect my belongings," the senior resident remarked.

"The community is so near to the fire department and we thought the blaze could be put out quickly, but now the blaze has advanced. I'm so disappointed," she added.

The woman mentioned that she had been offered no instructions from the government on where to find help.

Multiple area inhabitants had provided essentials to the impacted residents - comprising numerous of warm layers and warming devices.

During interviews about their feelings regarding the blaze, locals stated that "local administration is unprepared" and that they were "immensely heartbroken".

"We hope not to experience any additional victims," said one.

An older female who dwells in a unit within the damaged blocks explained she was absent when the blaze broke out but that she is worried about her home because it is not insured.

"I'm profoundly troubled that I have no home to return to currently," she concluded.
