Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event occurred on the third circuit when track officials were observed on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his compromised front wing

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two guys dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication at some point but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track safety personnel can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Official Investigation Underway

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is actively examining the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the regulatory authority

"On lap three, track officials were informed and made ready to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch personnel were rescinded and a double yellow flag was raised in that area"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred after that point"
