The athlete recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The competition also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
